I always say that choosing a micro-wedding venue should be a balance–equal parts logistics, gut feelings, and aesthetics.
A place might seem perfect on paper, but if you don’t walk in and get a rush of wonder, it might not be the right spot for you. In the same way, as much as the atmosphere of a micro-wedding venue matters, it’s not always as simple as walking in and feeling the vibe. You’ll need to consider the other logistics of your wedding day when choosing a venue.
If you’re not sure how to go about this balance, this list of questions and considerations can help you weigh what’s most important and give you an easy way to measure a venue’s pros and cons.
Questions to ask yourselves:
- Can this space accommodate our guests? Is the space big enough for the guest list you’ve invited? How will your loved ones feel in this space? How will you feel about your loved ones in this space? Is it too big? Too small? Or just right like Whitney + Levi’s private home rental in the Columbia River Gorge was.
- Is this the aesthetic we’re after? If this is important to you, don’t let anyone tell you the look of your wedding doesn’t matter. How the space looks directly impacts how you feel about the venue. So, ask yourself–is this the aesthetic you’re chasing?
- How does this venue feel when we walk in? Do a gut check–what are your emotions when you see and experience the space? Do you get goosebumps? Can you fully envision the moments of your wedding happening in here? Is it one of those “this place could work” feelings that just doesn’t get you excited?
- Does the venue allow you to work with the creative wedding vendors you want to work with? Some vendors will likely prefer you work with their list of vendors–and that’s OK if it’s OK with you. If this is the case, but you’d prefer to work with creative wedding vendors, it’s OK to look for a different venue. Remember, vendors make such a difference on your wedding day (as well as leading up to it and after).
Does this venue go with the flow of our day? It’s important to decide if the location of a venue works with the flow of your day. Do you plan to be around the venue most of your wedding day? Will you be bouncing around? Are there other places you’d like to explore? Can you extend your time here for a honeymoon?
